During the summer of 1871 in Sydney, Australia, Robert Beauchamp suffered three severe spells of sickness that confined him indoors. Despite this, he was given the strength by God to preach three times a week during these illnesses.
In Their Own Words
“Sydney, August 14, 1871. President Albert Carrington. Dear Brother,—I take the opportunity of writing to you, to let you know how we are getting on in this part of the Lord's vineyard. We are doing the best we can to spread the truth, but the people are very indifferent. I have had three severe spells of sickness since I last wrote to you, which have confined me to the house, but I have been enabled, by the help of the Lord, to preach three times a week at our meeting-house, and I feel that the Lord is with me. I live for God and His kingdom, and nothing else. I have no desire but to do His will, and to see His work roll forth. I am thankful for the privilege of being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and for the testimony I have of the truth of the Gospel. I know that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God, and that the work he was the instrument in the hands of God of establishing, is the work of the Lord. I pray that the Lord may bless you in your high and holy calling, and all the faithful Saints in Zion. Your brother in the Gospel, Robert Beauchamp.”
