Sister Bensen's two-year-old son was standing in the path of a large, ferocious, charging bull. The animal, when within a foot of the child, suddenly threw itself backward as if struck by a blow and turned away, leaving the boy unharmed.

In Their Own Words

“One day Sister Bensen heard a noise in the street, and on looking out saw a large, ferocious, bull coming up the street, bellowing and pawing the ground with its feet; and imagine, if you can, her horror to see her little two-year-old boy directly in front of it. The child not being old enough to realize its danger, stood still looking at the advancing animal. The poor mother stood rooted to the spot, not being able to move or speak, expecting to see her little son trampled to death or tossed in the air. On came the mad animal until it was within a foot of the boy when all of a sudden it threw itself backward, just as if it had been struck a heavy blow in the face. It then went off in another direction and never touched the child. — The Young Woman's Journal 6:7”
