During a mission in Vermont in the summer of 1832, Orson Pratt and his companion, Lyman E. Johnson, arrived in Charleston on June 15, 1832. They remained in the community for eleven days, during which time they held six meetings and baptized eleven people, including John Badger. Following this, the elders traveled a few miles south to continue their missionary efforts. During this subsequent period, they held eleven meetings in that vicinity. It was in this specific area, while continuing their ministry, that the Lord healed a lame woman whom the elders had recently baptized. This account is drawn from the personal journals of Orson Pratt, which detail the extensive missionary travel and administrative work performed by Pratt and Johnson throughout the northeastern United States in 1832.

In Their Own Words

“June 15,—Arrived among our brethren in Charleston; tarried eleven days, held six meetings; baptized eleven, one of whom was John Badger. Then went south a few miles and held eleven meetings; here the Lord healed a lame woman whom we baptized. — The Orson Pratt Journals, comp. Elden J. Watson, p. 19”
