Nathaniel V. Jones's miraculous escape from boat overturn in Birmah

While traveling through a flooded region in Birmah (Burma) on a hired boat with Elder Savage, Nathaniel V. Jones experienced a boat overturn just before nightfall. He was submerged in several feet of water but survived, and by the next day, he was able to continue his travels.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

I accordingly set out on the 18th of October, and steamed across the bay, and in six days landed in Rangoon. I found the brethren well, and in good spirits. We remained in Rangoon until the 27th, when we took passage on a native boat for Prome. We had a very tedious passage, being twenty-two days on the river. As a last resort, we came to conclusion to hire a boat, and proceed up the river as best we could. I had the misfortune just before night to get an overturn, by which I was enabled to judge correctly of the depth of water, which I found to be several feet. We however made the best of it for the night, and by morning my clothes were partly dry.
