In a lecture delivered in the New Tabernacle in Salt Lake City on September 4, 1871, Mrs. G. L. Whitman testified that, based on her own knowledge, the 'latter rain' was restored to the land of Palestine in 1853, fulfilling prophetic expectations regarding the land's fruitfulness.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 33, No. 39, 26 September 1871, p. 618):
Mrs. G. L. Whitman said that she knew that the latter rain had been restored to the land of Palestine in 1853, and that the land was beginning to bring forth fruit, as the prophets had predicted.
In Their Own Words
“She quoted the writings of the prophets showing that that land would be cursed with sterility, but that the time would come when the rains would be restored. She testified from her own knowledge that the 'latter rain' was restored in 1853. — Millennial Star 33:39”
