Miraculous rescue of Bishop Jasper Robertson, Samuel R. Jewkes, and Ole Sitturd from a storm

Bishop Jasper Robertson, Samuel R. Jewkes, and Ole Sitturd were caught in a terrific storm while attempting to cross the mountains in Emery County on the 14th of April 1883. They were without sleep or bedding and facing severe weather. Sitturd, through 'almost superhuman exertion and endurance,' made his way to a settlement by evening, raised a rescue party of twelve men, and returned to lead them through waist-deep snow to find his companions the following morning. The group was saved, though some suffered from snowblindness. The report notes that but for Sitturd's endurance, they would have certainly died.

Bishop Jasper Robertson, Samuel R. Jewkes, and Ole Sitturd, of Emery Stake, were caught in a terrific storm while attempting to cross the mountains in Emery County, on the 14th of April, 1883. They were without sleep or bedding, and were exposed to the fury of the elements for a long time. Brother Sitturd, through almost superhuman exertion and endurance, made his way to a settlement by evening, and raised a rescue party of twelve men, and returned to lead them through snow, in some places waist deep, to find his companions the following morning. The party was saved, though some of them suffered from snow-blindness. It is the opinion of those who know the circumstances, that had it not been for the endurance of Brother Sitturd, his companions would have certainly perished.
