Melbourne Saints' Pentecostal Conference

During a three-day conference in Melbourne, Australia, attended by all local Latter-day Saints and many strangers, the participants experienced such a powerful manifestation of the Holy Spirit that even the non-members present confessed they could never forget the event. The account describes it as a "pentecostal feast" where the believers realized in a signal manner the blessings promised to them.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

Previous to that time, that is to say, on the 14th, 15th and 16th days of October 1865, a Conference was held here, which all the Saints in this place attended, as did also many strangers, and the Spirit of God was upon us in so great a degree, that strangers present confessed that they never could forget it. It was indeed to the Saints a pentecostal feast, who realized in a signal manner the blessings promised to the believer. The brethren had procured the use of a large hall near Bourke Market, a pleasant and commodious room. The Saints were much cheered and comforted by the instructions given by Elders Spencer and Beauchamp, and the gifts of wisdom and knowledge by those who spoke, in bearing testimony and exhortations.
