On September 5, 1883, while resting and feeling physically weak before her upcoming baptism, Mary Y. Corby saw a vision of a black cloud transforming into a brilliant light, in which Jesus appeared to her. He showed the prints of the nails in His hands and spoke a comforting message to her regarding His presence and support.
In Their Own Words
“While these thoughts were passing through my mind, with my eyes closed, I saw a large black cloud, which seemed to come from over my right shoulder and slowly pass before me, and, like the disciples of oid, I “feared as I entered the cloud; but as it became more distinct, I saw tliat it was edged with a bright gold color, as I have sometimes seen at the setting of the sun, only much more beautiful. Ina few seconds it had disappeared, and as I ‘have sometimes seen a «cloud slowly pass over a full moon and leave it bright and clear, so the black cloud I saw, as it passed away, left behind it an indescribable, brilliant light, but so soft that I could look upon it without the slightest inconvenience, and there, in the midst of that glorious light, stood Jesus, my Savior. Notongue or pen can describe the glory of that scene. He seemed to stand upon a cloud of silvery whiteness, He was dressed in a long flowing garment, reaching to His feet. His hair was long, and resting in beautiful ringlets on His shoulders. His arms were straight down by His side; His hands spread open before me, so that I could distinctly see the print uf the nails in them. He did not seem to speak to me, but the following passage was presented to my mind in such a way as to convince me that it came from His sacred lips: Fear thon not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” I became enraptured and exclaimed, ‘ Blessed Jesus,’ and by that time the glory began to fade away, and the form of my Savior became less distinct, and I can best describe what followed in the words of St. Matthew, ‘ A bright cloud overshadowed Him,’ and He was hidden from my view, but it was some time before the bright light passed away. — Millennial Star 45:42”
