The Mandingo Indians of the Mandingo Bay islands recognize an 'old man' as a vicegerent of the Great Spirit. When he dies, a successor is chosen, and the Mandingo believe that the 'mantle' of the Great Spirit descends upon the successor, imbuing their mind with all knowledge.
In Their Own Words
“Reply.—That be for the Great Spirit, for when the mantle descends, the Great Spirit imbues that mind with all knowledge. — Millennial Star 13:11”
