In 1907, Mabel A. (M.) Woodward, who lived in Bedford, suffered from a chronic throat affliction identified as an enlarged tonsil; a doctor had said it would need to be cut or burnt. She later also suffered from quinsy. After the Elders had been removed from Bedford, she traveled to a London conference and requested that they administer to her. She felt relief immediately, and her throat gradually improved until the lump disappeared, allowing her to speak more clearly. The Saints also fasted and prayed for her, and she was healed of both the tonsillitis and quinsy.
In Their Own Words
“I have been a sufferer for some time with a throat affliction. I had an enlarged tonsil, and the doctor told me it would have to be cut or burnt out. I also suffered with quinsy. The elders were removed from Bedford, and I was left without any one to administer to me. I felt very lonely, but I prayed to the Lord to open up a way for me. I had a great desire to go to the London conference. I managed to get there, and on going to London I requested the president to have the elders administer to me, which they did. I felt relief immediately. My throat gradually improved till the lump entirely disappeared. It has been remarked several times since how distinctly I talk now to the way in which I used to speak. I feel that the Lord has been very good to me, and I know that He hears and answers the prayers of the faithful. The Saints in London fasted and prayed for me, and I am thankful to them for their kindness. I am now able to attend to my duties, and I feel to praise the Lord for His goodness to me.”
