James Patrick Meik, one of the first converts to the Church in India and a leader in the Calcutta branch, faced a frightening trial when his young daughter was struck down by a violent attack of fever. Elder William Willis, who had been appointed by Elder Lorenzo Snow to preside over the mission in India and arrived in Calcutta on Christmas Day 1851, took action on behalf of the suffering child. Following the principles of the gospel, Elder Willis administered to the daughter. As a result of this blessing, the child was restored to health by the power of God. This miraculous recovery provided a source of great comfort and gratitude to the parents, as well as to Elder Willis, who later testified of the event in his correspondence to the Millennial Star.

In Their Own Words

“The Lord also has raised up the little daughter of brother Meik, who had a violent attack of fever, by the same means, for which I and the parents desire to express our thankfulness. — Millennial Star 14:6”
