Joseph Stout Allen was an early convert to the restored gospel whose simple testimony, recorded in Hosea Stout's 'Our Pioneer Ancestors,' shows that he was 'absorbing Mormonism rapidly.' He is remembered as 'a close observer of the great events which followed' the founding of the Church—one of the everyday Saints whose quiet faith and witness accompanied the unfolding of the Restoration. His life is preserved in the genealogical and biographical records of the Stout family of early Utah.
