On the morning Joseph Fielding left his home in England for America, he and his sister read the 106th Psalm as their daily lesson. When they reached the 17th verse, which mentions God sending a man before them named Joseph, Fielding felt an immediate, distinct impression that this was a divine sign regarding his journey to prepare a way for his family.
In Their Own Words
“We, as a family, had always been in the habit of reading a portion of scripture, morning and evening, and on the morning that I with my sister bid farewell to my native place, we read as our lesson the 106th Psalm, and as the 17th verse was read, ‘He sent a man before them, even Joseph, &c. (that being my name) and taking it in connexion with our thoughts on the subject, our minds were particularly struck, and I went off as cheerfully as though I had been going home ; the Lord was with me in all things.”
