After struggling to find a way to transport Saints and produce between islands in the Sandwich Islands mission, the missionaries were divinely led to a man who possessed a vessel. They taught him, baptized him, and through his assistance, acquired the vessel to facilitate their missionary work and the gathering of the Saints.
In Their Own Words
“We were very much puzzled how to get a vessel, when we fell in with a man on this island, convinced him of its truth, baptized him into the Church, and he was the means of our purchasing a small vessel, to ply between the islands, to carry the Elders back and forth, to take our produce from Lanai to this place and other ports to market, and to gather the people. — Millennial Star 17:28”
