While preaching the Gospel to a congregation of General Baptists in Rodmer Clough, John Quigley and his companion Elder Eckersley were confronted by a local preacher and another person who attempted to confound them with questions. The writer testifies that the Lord was present with them, providing them with a testimony of the truth of their message.

In Their Own Words

“On Sunday, Feb. 19, Elder Eckersley and I went to Rodmer Clough, a place where the Gospel had not been preached for some time. We obtained permission to hold a meeting in a school-room, and had a very good attendance. We spoke on the first principles of the Gospel, and the people listened with marked attention. The school was then dismissed. A local preacher and another person began to ply us with questions, evidently for the purpose of confounding us, but the Lord was with us and gave us another testimony that ‘Truth is mighty and will prevail.’ We were invited to the house of Mr. Wm. Greenwood, where we were treated with great kindness, and we had the privilege of explaining the principles of the Gospel to several who were present. We feel that our visit to this place will be productive of good.”
