John Erik Forsgren — Healing of Peter Adolph Forsgren from Consumption

In 1850, John Erik Forsgren arrived in Sweden as its first LDS missionary and visited his brother Peter Adolph Forsgren (also called Peter A. Forsgren), who was bedridden with severe consumption (tuberculosis). Physicians had declared Peter past recovery. John administered to him through the ordinances of the gospel, including prayer and anointing with oil, by the power of the Holy Priesthood. Peter recovered from his illness and was baptized on July 26, 1850, becoming the first Latter-day Saint convert in Sweden.

Elder Forsgren's brother, Peter, was suffering of consumption, but he was completely restored through faith and prayer. He was the first to receive baptism, on the 19th of July. Elder Peter A. Forsgren is still a faithful member of the Church, residing in Brigham City, Utah. Shortly afterwards, on the 3rd of August, Elder Forsgren baptized his sister and two other persons. Elder Peter Forsgren related a remarkable incident. His brother was one very ill brother Peter Adolph whom he blessed and healed, of how his sister Christina Erika had had a vision that a man would come bearing books that she was to look at and pay attention Forsgren, who through faith and anointing with oil had been raised from his bed of sickness, and on the 26th day of July, 1850, he baptized him as the first fruit of preaching the gospel in its fulness in Sweden.
