John Bowen, a former distributor for the Baptist publication, relates his conversion to the Latter-day Saint faith. He describes receiving a divine testimony through the Holy Spirit the first time he attended a meeting of the Saints, confirming to him that it was the house of God and the gate to heaven. He subsequently was baptized for the remission of sins.
In Their Own Words
“I say to you that God gave me a testimony through his Holy Spirit the first time I went to the church of the Saints, “that the house of God and the gate to heaven were there.” Several things testify to me that the church of the Saints is the true church of Jesus Christ; apart from the fact that the signs which Jesus Christ promised follow these believers, the united efforts of nearly all the other denominations to persecute them with lies, prove that they are not of the world, were it not that the world has loved its own. — Prophwyd y Jubili (Prophet of the Jubilee), November, 1847 (English translation by Ronald D. Dennis)”
