John Beck was a German convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—the first of his family to join the Church, the rest following after him—who became one of the notable mining magnates of early Utah. From his Bullion-Beck mine in the Tintic mining district he drew fabulous wealth, and his name is still borne by Beck's Hot Springs, Saratoga, and Beck Street in the Salt Lake Valley. Brother Beck's life is a faith-promoting witness that the Lord can prosper the faithful, and that the gifts of industry the Lord grants may become a blessing to the whole community of the Saints.
