After being baptized in the River Yare at the age of seventy-two, James Winfield was confirmed. He immediately arose and testified that he had received the gift of the Holy Ghost, inviting those present to seek the same blessings.

In Their Own Words

“on the twenty-seventh of October, 1848, I had the honor to baptize him with four others in the river Yare, he being that day seventy-two years of age; on the Sunday following I confirmed him a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He arose and bore a faithful testimony to this being the work of God; shouting glory to God; declaring that he had then received the gift of the Holy Ghost; inviting the hundreds then present to come and do as he had done, and they should receive the same like blessings. — Millennial Star 11:4”
