An Indian man, his wife, and daughter traveled hundreds of miles to Commerce, Illinois, to learn about the work of the Church. They embraced the message and testified that every word of the Book of Mormon was true. The man, who served as an interpreter for six tribes, expressed his knowledge that every member of his tribes would eventually receive the record.

Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 1, No. 4 (August 1840), p. 96):

An Indian man, his wife, and daughter, have traveled some hundreds of miles to this place, to learn the work of the Lord. They have embraced the truth, and testify that every word of the Book of Mormon is true. The man is an interpreter for six tribes, and he says that every one of his tribes will receive the work.

In Their Own Words

“There was an Indian, his wife, and daughter, baptised in Commerce a few days since; they came some hundreds of miles to become acquainted with the work ; they believed and embraced it at once. They said every word of the Book of Mormon was true. He was an interpreter to six tribes, and he said every one of his brethren would receive it; he knew it would be so.— Millennial Star 1:4”
