A woman overhears her husband, Henry, praying in the middle of the night for the Lord to make him a wise husband and to bless their home with peace and harmony. This experience leads the wife to recognize her own poor conduct and motivates her to seek forgiveness through prayer, resulting in renewed peace in their marriage.

In Their Own Words

“A few nights ago I lay awake thinking about what had lately happened between Henry and me. I knew he was not asleep either, for he spoke my name softly, but I pretended to be far off in the land of dreams, as I still felt a little sure in my mind about the affair. Then I heard him softly step out of bed, and was wondering what he was going to do, when I discovered by the dim moonlight that he was kneeling by a chair on the other side of the room. I heard him whisper, and as I strained my sense of hearing, I distinctly caught some of the words. Among other things he prayed the Lord to make him a good and wise husband. How my heart smote me. But when he concluded by saying, ‘Bless my dear, young wife also, that we may live in peace and harmony together,’ I could have wept out loud. — The Young Woman's Journal 5:3”
