Heber J. Grant testified that after undergoing a serious surgical operation which medical professionals claimed was impossible to survive, he recovered following the administration and blessings of the brethren of the Priesthood. He further testified that he had been saved from death by pneumonia, contrary to the predictions of life insurance company physicians, and that he had been healed from other afflictions through the faith and prayers of the Priesthood.

In a discourse delivered on March 13, 1898, Grant identified the specific location of his recovery as a hospital, noting that he had known by the inspiration of the Spirit of God before entering the facility that he would recover. He further recounted that he had been healed of other afflictions, specifically mentioning that God healed his children when they were afflicted in Washington and that his daughter was raised up from a bed of illness after a spiritual medium had erroneously predicted her death.

In Their Own Words

“I knew as well before I went to the hospital that I would return as I know it to day. I knew by the inspiration of the Spirit of God to me that I should recover. I bear testimony to you that God lives, and I know it. I bear testimony to you that Jesus is the Christ, the Redeemer of the world. I bear testimony to you that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God. I pray that God may lead us one and all by the light and inspiration of His Spirit, and I ask it in the name of Jesus. — Heber J. Grant, Salt Lake Stake Conference, March 13, 1898, in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 60, No. 23”
