Healing of Sister Sweetman at Runcorn

Sister Sweetman, a member at Runcorn, was miraculously restored from a state described as near death through the administration of the Elders. Her husband, Mr. Sweetman, was so convinced by this recovery that he expressed his intention to be baptized and join the Church.

Fuller account of this event (as retold in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 40, No. 31, August 5, 1878, p. 494):

Runcorn, July 22nd, 1878. Dear Brother Budge,—I write to inform you of a case of healing that has occurred in this branch. Sister Sweetman, who has been a member of the Church for some time, was taken very ill, and for some days was in a very precarious state, and was given up by her friends and neighbors, and even by the doctor who attended her, who said she could not live. Her husband, Mr. Sweetman, who is not a member of the Church, was very much distressed, and sent for Elder L. D. Bunce, who came and administered to her. She began to recover from that time, and is now able to walk about. Mr. Sweetman feeling satisfied that his wife had been restored as it were from death by the laying on of the hands of the Elders, said that he should be baptized and become numbered with the Saints. We feel to rejoice in this manifestation of the power of God, and pray that it may be the means of bringing others to a knowledge of the truth. Your brother in the Gospel, John H. Kelson.
