In August 1907, a young boy in the South London branch was suffering from severe tonsillitis and inflamed glands, an illness that had persisted for two weeks. On Sunday, August 4, 1907, Sister R. E. Spiller sought the aid of the Church, and Elders C. A. Sperry and William Allen visited to administer to her son. The following day, Monday, August 5, Sister Spiller took the child to an outing of the Saints at Chingford. While there, she had him examined by a local doctor, who formally diagnosed the child with tonsillitis and inflamed glands. That same evening, Elders Sperry and Allen returned to administer to the boy once more, specifically rebuking the disease in the name of the Lord. Following this second administration, the child slept well throughout the night. Sister Spiller reported that by the following Tuesday, the throat trouble had entirely vanished, signifying a complete recovery.

In Their Own Words

“South London, August 14, 1907. Dear President—I feel it my duty to write and bear my testimony to the power of God, as manifested in the healing of my little son. For two weeks he had been suffering with tonsilitis and inflamed glands, and was in a very bad condition. On Sunday, August 4th, I sent for two Elders of the Church, and they came and administered to him. The following morning I took the little one to the outing of the Saints at Chingford. While there, I had him examined by a skilled doctor, who told me that he was suffering with tonsilitis and inflamed glands, and that he was in a very serious condition. In the evening of that day Elders C. A. Sperry and William Allen came and administered to him again, and rebuked the disease in the name of the Lord. The child had a good night's rest, and by Tuesday the throat trouble was entirely gone. I am very thankful to my Heavenly Father for this manifestation of His power, and I know that the Gospel is true. Your sister in the Gospel, R. E. Spiller.”
