Maud Stevens, of the North London branch, suffered from epilepsy for many years, relying on medicine that weakened her brain. After joining the Church, Elder Charles H. Smith promised her she could be healed through faith. Initially, she struggled to leave her medication, but after several months, her faith increased through prayer, and she was permanently healed of her affliction.
In Their Own Words
“For many years I had been troubled with a terrible complaint, epilepsy, and had been attended by various doctors, both privately and in hospital, who all prescribed the same remedy, which was in reality as bad or worse than the disease. It seemed to affect my brain, and I was often in a state of semi-consciousness. I spoke to Elder Charles H. Smith, who was the instrument in the hands of the Lord in bringing me into the fold of Jesus Christ. He promised me that I should also be cured. I must confess that at first I had not sufficient faith to leave off the medicine, but after I had been in the Church for some time, and had learned more of the power of God, I felt that I could trust Him. I threw away my medicine, and although for a few months I had some very severe attacks, I did not lose my faith, but by the grace of God and continual prayer it grew gradually, until to-day my heart goes up in thankfulness to my Heavenly Father for having healed me of my awful affliction.”
