Sister Margaret Anderson had been an invalid confined to her bed for eighteen months with rheumatism and was unable to walk. After hearing the Gospel, she was baptized by Elder Jos. H. Evans on April 25, 1883. Upon coming out of the water, she was able to walk home nearly a quarter of a mile without assistance and subsequently recovered her health to attend to household duties.

Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 45, No. 38, 17 September 1883, p. 603):

Sister Margaret Anderson, of North Stockton, had been an invalid, confined to her bed for eighteen months, with rheumatism, and was unable to walk. After hearing the Gospel, she was baptized by Elder Jos. H. Evans, on April 25, 1883. Upon coming out of the water, she was able to walk home, a distance of nearly a quarter of a mile, without assistance, and has since been able to attend to her household duties. We, the undersigned, bear testimony to the truth of the above. Wm. Anderson, Thomas Bennett, James Williams.

In Their Own Words

“Sister Margaret Anderson, wife of Wm. Anderson, 44 Leonard St., Portrick Lane, North Stockton, has been an invalid and confined to her bed for eighteen months with rheumatism, and was unable to walk at all. Her husband heard of and obeyed the Gospel, and she also heard the Elders preach in their house, and was told if she obeyed the requirements of the Gospel she should be healed, She complied, and was carried to the water by Brothers Thomas Bennett and James Williams, and was baptised on the 25th of April last by Elder Jos. H. Evans. She came out of the water without assistance, and walked to her home, a distance of nearly one-fourth of a mile, without the aid of anyone, and since that time has been able to attend to her household duties, and is entirely recovered. — Millennial Star 45:38”
