During a thunderstorm, lightning struck the tithing granary at Moroni, Utah. Two men inside the building were knocked unconscious by the electric current. Brother Scott was specifically scorched, his watch chain was melted, and he suffered burns to his throat and chest, but both men recovered from the incident.

In Their Own Words

“On Friday last month the tithing granary at Moroni was struck by lightning and considerably damaged, and two men who were inside the building were knocked insensible by the force of the electric current, but both recovered. A correspondent to the Deseret News gives the following account of the effect upon the person of one of these men: It scorched Brother Scott's eyelashes and beard, and made a black spot on his throat, burned his breast, etc. — Millennial Star 46:34”
