Bishop John L. Hart, while suffering from sickness, was set apart for the presidency of the August emigration company by the laying on of hands by Brother Teasdale on board the ship. He experienced a miraculous improvement in his health from that moment until he reached his home in the mountains.

Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 49, No. 41, 10 October 1887, p. 651):

Bishop John L. Hart, who was suffering from sickness, was set apart for the presidency of the August company, and was administered to by Elder Teasdale, and from that moment he began to improve, and continued to do so until he reached his home in the mountains.

In Their Own Words

“After you laid your hands upon me on shipboard and set me apart for the presidency of the company, I felt the blessings of God flow from you to me, and I am happy to say the promise you made me was fulfilled upon my head, insomuch that my health began to recruit from the time I started until I reached our mountain home, for which I feel to give praise and thanksgiving to God my Father. — Millennial Star 49:41”
