In 1840, Hannah Savage, living in Liverpool, dreamed that Wilford Woodruff, his wife Phoebe, and other Elders would arrive aboard a particular vessel on a particular day, and that no one would be there to meet them. Instructed by the dream to go to the docks, she followed its directions, although her husband had been told at the Church office that there was no information about any Elders arriving. Savage found the vessel and met President Wilford Woodruff and Phoebe Woodruff. The Woodruffs said that Phoebe had also dreamed on the same night about being met by Hannah Savage. The account was later published in the Millennial Star.
In Their Own Words
“On the late President Wilford Woodruff’s second mission to England accompanied by his wife, Phoebe, and a number of Elders, in those days there being no telegraph or cable, no one at the office in Liverpool had heard that any Elders were coming, she dreamed that Elder Woodruff and wife, also other Elders, were coming on a certain day on a certain vessel, and that there would be no one to meet them; and in that dream she was instructed to do so. She told her husband the dream, and he went to the church office in Liverpool to make inquiries, They told him they had not been advised of any Elders coming. On the day named in her dream, Sister Savage went down to the docks and inquired at the same dock shown her in her dream, and they told her that with the incoming tide that vessel would be in. Just as soon as the planks were fixed, Sister Savage went on board and found President Woodruff and wife. Sister Woodruff exclaimed: This lady has come for us; and what is more remarkable is that Sisters Savage and Woodruff had their dreams on the same night. — Millennial Star 61:35”
