George A. Smith — Healing of Eyes and Health in London
Published August 31, 2026 at 12:08 AM
While serving a mission in London, George A. Smith suffered from a debilitating illness and a severe condition in his eyes that threatened to end his missionary labors. His daughter, Grace Libbey Smith Cheever, recorded in a biographical sketch that her father's health had failed to the point where he could no longer read or function effectively. Following the administration of the elders and his own fervent prayers, George experienced a restoration of his health and eyesight. This recovery allowed him to continue his work with the Quorum of the Twelve in England during a pivotal time for the Church's growth there.
