While traveling between the Hawaiian islands, President George Q. Cannon and his company found themselves becalmed with the wind having died out. They prayed to the Lord for wind, and their prayers were answered, allowing them to continue their journey.

In Their Own Words

“We were on our way from Lahaina to Honolulu, on the island of Oahu. We had taken passage on a small schooner, and were accompanied by a number of the native Saints. The wind was very light when we started, and it soon died away entirely, leaving us becalmed in the channel between the islands of Maui and Hawaii. We remained in this condition for some time, the vessel lying perfectly still upon the water. The captain and crew were very much troubled, as they were anxious to reach their destination. I felt that the Lord could help us, and I went to the brethren and sisters who were with me, and proposed that we should unite in prayer to the Lord, and ask Him to send us a breeze. They readily agreed, and we retired to a secluded part of the deck, and bowed before the Lord. We prayed earnestly that He would send us a wind that would carry us on our journey. We felt that our prayer was heard and would be answered. We arose from our knees, and shortly after, a gentle breeze began to blow. It increased in strength, and soon we were sailing along at a good rate of speed. We felt that the Lord had heard and answered our prayers, and we thanked Him for His goodness to us.”
