In June 1906, Eva A. Hasler left England for Zion. Before departing, she received a blessing from President Grant promising that if she remained faithful, she would overcome all obstacles, reach her destination in safety, and find many friends. During the voyage, her money was stolen. She prayed for guidance and felt a sense of peace that the Lord would provide. Upon arrival in Boston, a company of Church members, unknown to her, subscribed $23 for her, and Sister Zina Chipman lent the rest. She was then detained and subjected to a four-hour interrogation by three U.S. commissioners regarding her faith, the Prophet, and the Church. She reported that the Lord blessed her with wisdom to answer their questions, and at the conclusion, all three commissioners thanked her for the information and asked her questions about individual revelation. She was later released and found the promised support in Zion.
In Their Own Words
“Realizing that I was now penniless, I retired to my room where I sought the Lord in humble prayer. Although I felt I should never again possess my stolen money, sweet peace came to my soul and I knew beyond a doubt that the Lord would provide and the promises of His servant be fulfilled. ... The Lord gave me wisdom and blessed me marvelously in the handling of these questions and at dismissal all three gentleman thanked me for the information I had given. I impressed upon them the importance of that information and bore a strong testimony to the restoration of the gospel of Christ. — Millennial Star 71:1”
