Elizabeth Wootton Robinson — Premonition of Richard's Safety
Published August 31, 2026 at 4:10 AM
During the mid-1860s, while the family was living in the frontier settlements of Southern Utah during the Black Hawk War period, Elizabeth Wootton Robinson experienced a powerful spiritual impression that her husband, Richard Smith Robinson, was in immediate peril. Richard was frequently away from home, often engaged in dangerous duties such as carrying mail or serving in the local militia. Elizabeth, feeling a sudden and intense burden of concern, sought a secluded spot to offer a fervent prayer for his safety. When Richard eventually returned home, he shared that at the very hour Elizabeth had been praying, he had narrowly escaped an ambush by hostile forces. He felt he had been warned or shielded by a power beyond his own, confirming Elizabeth's spiritual prompting and the efficacy of her prayer.
