Sister Elizabeth Northen was afflicted with a partial paralysis on one side of her body, accompanied by excruciating pains in her side, back, and hip. Her leg was so contracted that she could not walk without assistance. After failing to find relief at two hospitals, she attended a meeting of the Saints in Vauxhall-walk with great difficulty and agony. Elders Benjamin Brown, Thorn, and Kemp administered to her. She felt an immediate sensation of the Spirit of God pass through her and was instantly healed. She was able to attend to her household duties as if nothing had been wrong, and continued in health and strength a month later, testifying of the healing to her relations and neighbors.
In Their Own Words
“Sister Elizabeth Northen, residing at 85, Jewin Street, City, London, has been for a long time afflicted with a partial paralysis on one side of her person, accompanied by excruciating pains in her side and back; and her leg and hip were so contracted that she was totally unable to walk without assistance. She sought the best advice at two hospitals, but without success; and she has had other medical aid, all to no purpose. Hearing that the Elders were to be at the meeting in Vauxhall-walk, she felt a strong desire to attend, and she told her husband that the Lord would give her strength to go. She was administered to by Elder Benjamin Brown, assisted by Elders Thorn, and Kemp, upon which she felt a sensation of the power of God pass through her and through me, and I am healed,” which was, indeed, the fact; for since that time, she has been enabled to attend to her family duties as if nothing had been the matter with her. This was about a month ago; and, to the utter astonishment of her relations and neighbours, she continues in health and strength, thanking God, and giving glory to Him, and spreading abroad on every hand the principles of the everlasting Gospel, as a reward for her obedience which made her the recipient of such great blessings. — Millennial Star 15:48”
