After his missionary companions, Elder John Parry and Elder A. Carlson, departed from North Wales, Elder John S. Lewis felt lonesome and inexperienced in a strange land. He sought a private place to pour out his heart in prayer, and he experienced a spiritual manifestation where he felt comforted and consoled by the Holy Spirit, feeling as if he were at home in Salt Lake City hearing the crystal streams.

In Their Own Words

“The society of these brethren became near and dear to my heart, insomuch that a feeling of sorrow and loneliness came over me when they took their departure, for I was inexperienced and a stranger in a strange land among strange people, with but little in my pocket. So the first thing I did was to seek a private place where I could pour out the feelings of my heart before the Lord, who is always ready and willing to comfort and console His children under the various scenes and circumstances which they are called to pass through, and I must admit that He did so to me on that occasion, insomuch that I felt as if I was at home among my best friends, for it seemed to me that the Lord, through His Holy Spirit, had brought them to me, so that I felt at times as if I was treading the beautiful streets of Salt Lake City, and could hear the rippling of the crystal streams which sparkle on either side. I felt that I was not alone, for the Lord was with me, and I felt to rejoice and praise His holy name for the testimony I had received, and for the knowledge I had of the truth of the work in which I was engaged.”
