While crossing the ocean with a company of Saints, Elder James Wine and the company held daily prayer meetings. On one occasion, they held a testimony meeting, during which Elder Wine felt the power of the Lord through His Spirit in a way he had not previously experienced.

In Their Own Words

“I left Liverpool on the 2nd of September, 1874, in the steamship Nevada, in charge of a company of Saints. We had a very pleasant passage, and were treated with great kindness by the officers and crew of the vessel. After being organized, we had prayer meetings morning and evening, and on one occasion we had a testimony meeting, such a one I do not remember having attended, the Lord was with us by his Spirit, and the hearts of the Saints were made to rejoice, and many bore testimony to the truth of the work of God, and the power of the Holy Ghost was felt by all present, and I believe that even the sailors who were near were impressed with the spirit of the meeting. We arrived in New York on the 14th of September, all well.”
