“We opened by singing and prayer, and then I began to speak, when a Christian brother began to shout—I will not call it singing—in a manner that would frighten anyone away. Nothing but the power of the Lord could have sustained me in such a position, for the crowd, which was composed of all classes of people, however, were not in possession of the same spirit that he was laboring under, and therefore, much to his chagrin, unhesitatingly declined his invitation, telling him to keep quiet and give us a hearing. He, however, continued until I raised my voice above his, and by this means effectually silenced his disagreeable tongue. This opposition only drew a crowd to hear the truth, much to his own confusion, for when we closed our meeting, he looked as though he had lost his mother, and was ready to crawl through a knot-hole, because he felt so exceedingly small. The people then crowded around us, and we distributed all the tracts we had, and could have given away many more had we been provided with them.”
