Elder James Burnham, while serving in Overton, Wales, faced violent opposition for preaching the gospel. He reports being stoned twice, with only one instance resulting in actual physical harm, yet he maintains his resolve to continue the missionary work.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 1, No. 9 (January 1841), p. 236):
Elder James Burnham, who has been laboring in Overton, writes that he has been stoned twice, but has received no injury, and is still continuing his labors.
In Their Own Words
“Dear Brother,—I am well and in good spirits. The Lord is with us, and the Devil is here also. I have been stoned twice since I came to this place, only once received harm. I rejoice in persecution and in tribulation, for Christ's sake.— Millennial Star 1:9”
