Elder Hochstrasser was accosted by several men who dragged him out of a carriage, struck him on the head, and forcibly marched him for half a mile to Zuchwyl. For three hours, he was abused, beaten with fists and canes, and spat upon while being taken into five different public houses. Despite the intensity of the ordeal and multiple beatings, he suffered no serious injury and his faith remained steadfast.
In Their Own Words
“Elder Hochstrasser had quite an exciting and painful experience last week in Zuchwyl. While traveling by carriage, two or three men marched up to him, collared him, and dragged him out of the vehicle, which was one of the interfering men had hired. They dragged him along, some of them striking him on the head, then on the other, while others were kicking, up to Zuchwyl, about half a mile from Solothurn. There they continued their abuse, taking him into five different public houses, all the time beating him with their fists and canes, spitting in his face, and otherwise maltreating him. They continued this for three hours, and, finally, taking him to the door, they gave him a kick and let him go. He is sore and bruised, but nothing broken, and his faith has not been weakened in the least. — Millennial Star 46:24”
