During a severe storm in Amlwch, North Wales, the smack Elizabeth and Ellen was crushed between two other vessels, yet the crew experienced a providential escape from death.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

Amlwch, North Wales, March 18, 1889. Dear Brother Teasdale,—I take pleasure in reporting to you the safe arrival of the Elders in this district. We have had a very rough time of it lately. On the 10th inst., a very severe storm visited this place, and the shipping in the harbor suffered considerably. The smack Elizabeth and Ellen, of Amlwch, got jammed between the schooners Success and Mary Ann, and was crushed to atoms. Her crew, however, experienced a most providential escape from death, as they were enabled to jump on board the other vessels just as their own was being destroyed. It is a miracle that they were not crushed between the vessels, as the sea was running very high at the time. The Lord is mindful of His children, and I feel to thank Him for the preservation of the lives of these men.
