While laboring in South Carolina, Elder Cragun was surrounded by a mob that threatened to kill him. He escaped through a back door but was pursued, captured, and brought out by men holding pistols to his head. Despite their threats, he spoke to them and was permitted to live and depart.

In Their Own Words

“From it we make the following extract: On the 15th of May, while Elder Cragun was stopping at the house of James Harris, a mob of some twenty men came to the house. Elder Cragun ran out of the back door, but was caught and brought out at the muzzles of several pistols. They threatened to kill him, and talked roughly to him. They halted and released him, however, after he had talked to them. — Millennial Star 47:29”
