During a conference meeting held in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1859, Elder Carl Widerborg, serving as the president of the Scandinavian Mission, felt a distinct impression from the Holy Ghost to expand Church operations into the northern territories of Sweden. Acting upon this spiritual guidance, he moved to organize a new ecclesiastical unit known as the Norrland Conference, which would be based in the city of Sundsvall. To provide leadership for this nascent organization, Elder Widerborg appointed Charles E. Lindholm, who had previously been laboring in that region as a traveling elder, to preside over the newly formed conference. The official establishment of the Norrland Conference took place on June 12, 1859, marking a significant expansion of the Church's reach in the Nordic countries.

In Their Own Words

“In the Conference meeting in Stockholm, I felt prompted by the Spirit to organize a Conference in the northern part of Sweden, by the name of Sundswall, and appointed the Travelling Elder there, Charles E. Lindholm, to preside over it. — Millennial Star 21:31”
