Delsa Stevens — Miraculous Recovery from Terminal Pneumonia
Published August 31, 2026 at 1:23 AM
In Kanab, Utah, three-year-old Delsa Stevens (then Delsa Pugh, daughter of Edward and Nellie Barnhurst Pugh) fell dangerously ill with a severe case of pneumonia. The local physician, Dr. Norris, attended to her but eventually informed the parents that the child was beyond medical help and would not survive the night. Her mother, Nellie B. Pugh, engaged in fervent, pleading prayer for her daughter's life. According to the account Nellie later related to her children, she received a powerful spiritual assurance—a 'peaceful feeling' and a divine promise—that Delsa would be spared. Priesthood holders were called to the home to administer to the child. Immediately following the administration, Delsa's condition took a dramatic and sudden turn for the better, defying the doctor's prognosis. She made a full and rapid recovery, an event the family attributed to the power of prayer and Priesthood administration.
