During the desperate struggle of the 'Forlorn Hope' party from the Donner camp, Mr. Eddy and Mary Graves, who were near starvation, found deer tracks. They knelt in the snow and prayed for a manifestation of God's power to save their band. Their prayer was answered, and they killed the deer, providing sustenance for the survivors.
In Their Own Words
“Not far from the camp, they ran across some deer tracks. “A moment later, that man and that woman who had once said that they knew not how to pray, were kneeling beside that newly found track pleading in broken accents to the Giver of all life, for a manifestation of His power to save their starving band.” Their prayer was answered. — The Young Woman's Journal 24:5”
