David B. Haight was present in the Salt Lake Temple when President Spencer W. Kimball announced the 1978 revelation extending the priesthood to all worthy male members. Haight described the event as being accompanied by an overwhelming outpouring of the Holy Spirit that was so powerful it left those present unable to speak immediately afterward.

“I would hope someday that our great-grandson Mark and others of our posterity would have similar spiritual experiences and that they would feel the spiritual power and influence of this gospel. I hope that Mark and others will have opportunities such as I had when I was in the temple when President Spencer W. Kimball received the revelation regarding the priesthood. I was the junior member of the Quorum of the Twelve. I was there. I was there with the outpouring of the Spirit in that room so strong that none of us could speak afterwards. We just left quietly to go back to the office.”
