Daniel Goulding — Protection During the Settlement of Henrieville
Published August 31, 2026 at 4:38 AM
As one of the original pioneer settlers of Henrieville in the late 1870s, Daniel Goulding faced significant dangers from the elements and the isolation of Southern Utah. The Kenneth Goulding manuscript records that during the early years of the settlement, Daniel and his family were preserved through several 'remarkable providences' involving the protection of their livestock and crops from sudden frosts and pests that affected neighboring areas. Daniel attributed the survival of his family in the harsh Garfield County climate to his adherence to the counsel of Church leaders and the power of prayer in securing their daily needs.
