Elder Daniel Carn, while serving as a missionary in Hamburg, was repeatedly examined by authorities, imprisoned, and ordered to leave the city because of his proselyting activities. Despite these difficulties and his official expulsion, he continued to baptize individuals in Altona, a nearby town.

In Their Own Words

“I am well, and feel well. Notwithstanding all the difficulties that have been put upon me, I have baptized two since I got my walking papers, and there are five more ready, but I must take my time and work when I can. I am now in the tavern. I can stay three weeks, by having my name on the landlord's book. ... I am still here, and feel first-rate; the work is rolling on. Since my last letter I have baptized five, and to-night I am going to baptize four more. — Millennial Star 15:10”
