Daniel Allen, a pioneer whose history is preserved in Dixie pioneer records, experienced a divine intervention in Nauvoo. When a mob came to his home to seize him, his wife Mary Ann told them he was not there. Despite searching the house and looking directly at the bed where Daniel lay with a child, the mob members' eyes were 'holden,' and they claimed to see only an old woman, allowing him to escape harm.
