Dafydd Richards' miraculous healing of severe mine burns

Dafydd Richards was severely burned in a mining accident involving coal mine damp, which ignited and caused extensive burns to his face and arms. Neighbors and family members refused to allow the LDS elders to administer to him, but he insisted. When the elders arrived, they locked the door against hostile neighbors, anointed him with oil, and prayed. Immediately after, the intense pain ceased, his burns no longer felt as if they were burning, and he was able to wash and dress himself. He returned to work the following morning, despite neighbors and coworkers claiming his recovery was a lie or deceit.

“Immediately when the brethren finished praying, the intensity of the pain ceased, and it no longer burned; and I arose, washed, and put on my clothes, thanking God for this great blessing. Then the door was opened, and the neighbors came into the house, and they impudently claimed to my face that the fire had not come out of my flesh, and that it was all my lies and deceit; and one of the zealous members of the Baptists shouted in my face, deceit, deceit! But I testified to them, like the blind man of old,—where I was once in great pain, as if in the middle of the flame of a fire, I am now healthy and comfortable; and I thought I was the best one able to judge accurately how things were with me. — Prophwyd y Jubili (Prophet of the Jubilee), September, 1848 (English translation by Ronald D.
