Brother Joseph Young, senior, was taken very sick following the death of Brother J. M. Grant. He was near death ('nigh unto the world of spirits'), but was restored to health by the power of God, with the report noting he possessed a significant portion of the Holy Spirit during his recovery.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 19, No. 22, 30 May 1857, p. 347):
Brother Joseph Young, senior, who has been very sick since the death of Brother J. M. Grant, and was considered by many to be nigh unto the world of spirits, has been restored to health by the power of God. He is now able to attend to his duties, and possesses a good portion of the Holy Spirit.
In Their Own Words
“Brother sen. was taken down after Brother J. M. Grant’s death, and has been nigh unto the world of spirits, but it has pleased our Father in heaven again to restore him; and though weak in body, he enjoys much of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. — Millennial Star 19:22”
